On September 10, 2025, the Republic of Liberia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs formally acknowledged and welcomed our proposal to establish the Liberia–Louisiana Leadership Alliance. The Ministry has appointed Hon. D. Emmanuel Wheinyue, Assistant Minister for Research and Development Planning, as the official liaison, ensuring consistent communication and collaboration moving forward.
The connection between Louisiana and Liberia is more than symbolic, it is a living bond of history, culture, and resilience. In the 19th century, freed Africans from Louisiana and the American South journeyed to Liberia, carrying with them traditions, leadership, and language that helped shape the nation’s earliest communities. Their legacy still echoes today in the strength of Liberian society and in the cultural heartbeat of Louisiana.
Today, this partnership allows us to honor that shared history while forging new pathways in governance, education, culture, and the responsible development of business opportunities that uplift both of our people.
At the center of this alliance is Louisiana Township in Montserrado County, Liberia — named after our state and standing as a testament to our transatlantic legacy. By working directly with its leaders, we are building a model for diaspora collaboration that unites history with progress.
This is more than diplomacy this is diaspora leadership in action. By deepening the Louisiana–Liberia connection, we amplify our collective voice, honor our shared history, and open doors for cultural pride, economic opportunity, and global influence. Together, we are not only remembering the past, we are building the future.
